The talk traces the history of boating, for no purpose other than pleasure, in Guildford, in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It looks at how our predecessors relaxed on the still much loved River Wey and tells about the entrepreneurs who ran the local boathouses.
This is brought right up to date with the building of a new boat-house that will offer rowing boats for hire from this summer. It is associated with the halow charity supporting young people with a learning disability, and will also have meeting spaces and a cafe.
