This hiking group was formed to enjoy circular morning walks starting in Bookham. We may occasionally catch a bus or train together to enable a linear walk back to Bookham. Walks cover a maximum of 6 miles at a reasonable pace. In turn we explore Effingham, Effingham Common, Bookham Commons, the River Mole, Fetcham Downs, Norbury Park, Ranmore Common and the Polesden Lacey Estate. A little road walking is necessary in the village but not too much.

We have recently begun to explore walks beyond Bookham. Our September 2022 walk took in Sheepleas and the countryside around West Horsley before a coffee stop at Place Farm. This attracted 13 members. Our January 2024 walk saw 16 of us hike around Norbury Pk and the Polesden estate. Our average turnout is 12 to 14. We currently have 25 active members.

We walk on the second Wednesday of each month, meeting at various local locations. This allows most members to leave their cars at home. We meet at 9.30am  and generally expect to start at that time.  Members are contacted by email about a week before each walk with an outline of the route and starting point. Hills and stiles are to be expected and of course mud. Weather permitting we stop for a short refreshment break so you may wish to bring a drink or snack. We are normally  back in Bookham in good time for lunch.

Twice a year we have a coffee stop, once in the summer and once before Christmas. The group is now 9 years old and numbers have grown steadily to double figures on most walks.

Some walks are repeated but reversing the route (not as easy as it sounds) which seems to provide a nice new walk!

All hikes will have been previously walked by the group leader.
