We
started in February 2009 and have a varied programme of about 10 full
day walks per year, visiting some of the lesser known museums and other buildings and places of interest. Most of the walks are around central
London extending to Hampstead and Highgate. Members take turns over the year, in pairs, to organise a walk. We usually travel by train from Leatherhead followed by bus but will occasionally use the underground.
There is a coffee and lunchtime stop and we aim to return to Leatherhead station before the rush hour.
Walks
are around 1.5- 3 miles and take place on the third Wednesday of the
month, although this may change to fit in with holidays.
Some of the places we have visited are:
- Vauxhall to Waterloo
- Dickens London
- Canary Wharf and Docklands museum
- Battersea park and power station
- Little Venice and boat trip on canal to Canal museum
- Imperial War Museum
- Bloomsbury
- Soho
- Kenwood House
- Kensington Gardens
