Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday morning of each month starting at 10.00am in the Waterfield Room at the Old Barn Hall for 9 sessions a year; not including July/August when we have an outing and December when we celebrate the year with a Christmas lunch.
At each meeting a member of the group gives a presentation on a topic of their choice, which have varied enormously over the years. The history of the Face Mask being the first talk following covid and lockdown!. But we have had talks about the Black Death, Tolpuddle Martyrs, Provincial Banks, April Fools, WW2 Diaries and Gin to name just a few. As you can see, our topics are VERY wide ranging. Which means we have all learnt a lot about subjects we knew nothing about or didn't know existed!
The November meeting is a Pot Pourri of 'numerous' 10 minutes chats from members which gives a flavour of possible future presentations.
The Temperance Movement was the title of the first talk of 2024. Perhaps a fitting title for Dry January! And the topics for 2024 were just as diverse as they have been in the past. The December Christmas Lunch was held in a local pub. We were 'right royally' fed at Bookham's very own 'Anchor Pub'. A great start to the festive season.
The 1st meeting in 2025 is on Monday 13th January with the topic 'Charities'.
If you are at all interested in social history, why not get in touch and learn about a cornucopia of subjects! It really is that interesting; all 'washed down' with tea/coffee and biscuits - you would be most welcome.
