Our
Walks are on the third Friday of the month. We expect to walk 3-5 miles
at a leisurely pace during the day. We have breaks for coffee on
arrival in London and lunch later on. Because of the poor rail service from Bookham, most of us now catch the 9:39 from Leatherhead and start our return from London around 4pm.
We take it in turns to lead the walks. Our group depends on the enthusiasm of all our members, who willingly volunteer to lead on the available dates. The leader(s) carry out a recce beforehand, usually two or three members taking part. They check the route and learn the history of sights, buildings and areas along the way. We may visit a museum, church or other site of interest. The group is made aware of any additional costs the walk might entail.
We
formed in October 2016. Our first walk was in Dec 2016 along the Thames' south
and north banks west of the Millennium bridge. Since then we have had over 80 walks, from Greenwich and the river Lea in the east to Kingston in the west; Hampstead Heath in the north to the Wandle valley in the south. We expect to extend those boundaries in time to come, while exploring this fascinating city in ever more detail.
