Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm, someone within the Bookham U3A History Group gives a talk about the subject of their choice – ideally with accompanying illustrations - to help bring it all to life. Friendly chat, tea and biscuits follow, often throwing further light on whatever was discussed.

The group has evolved over time and now covers any period of history, from ancient through medieval to modern. If the Romans or Greeks are your thing, we are ready to hear you. If you prefer the Crusades, Napoleon or more recent events, that’s equally fine. Monarchs, explorers, artists, revolutionaries – anyone and anywhere you like. We are just keen to welcome you and learn what you know about the past.

We now have plenty of vacancies so please think about joining us. Whether your interest arises from reading historical novels, visiting historic sites or more in-depth background knowledge doesn’t matter. There will be a place for you in the group and a warm welcome, whether it is your turn to give a presentation or just to listen.

Simon Phillips leads the group and hosts meetings. To find out more and arrange to come along for a taster session just contact Simon at

SimonJFPhillips@btinternet.com or the email contact above.
